Avant-garde does not exist. At least, it cannot survive alive on the ideological desert called popular music. In this context, it is hard to gauge the identity of PCR, who emerged wielding the No Wave genre—a genre that even in revolutionary times was almost annihilated. Appearing on this land, where the concept of capitalist realism fits more precisely than anywhere else in the world, they themselves claim that their music is not new. Even when combining an entire album with video, they borrow images far from commerciality; these images are often explosive, grotesque, sometimes sexy, and queer. The anarchistic tendencies of punk, fused with their sound and lyrics, reinforce the raw impression. Boldly citing influences on their album creation, it is reminiscent of the iconic “Odessa Steps” sequence from Sergei Eisenstein’s monumental film Battleship Potemkin.
